Last month, eBay announced a new Item Not Received process that will launch in January 2005 (please see the original announcement directly below). Based on Community input, we have made two important changes to the Item Not Received process:

  • *Extended Waiting Period for Buyers: Buyers will be able to initiate the Item Not Received process 10 days after the listing ends, instead of after seven days as previously announced. Also, the timeline to file an eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program claim will not be changed; buyers will be able to file a claim after 30 days have elapsed since the end of the listing, instead of after 17 days as previously announced. Thus, a buyer’s window to initiate the Item Not Received process will be 10-60 days after the listing ends, and their window to escalate to an eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program claim will be 30-90 days after the listing ends.
    *More Buyer Education: Buyers will be advised to take certain steps before initiating the Item Not Received process. For example, buyers will be instructed to: (1) ensure that enough time has elapsed, based on the payment and shipping methods to which both the buyer and the seller have agreed, (2) carefully re-read the terms of the original listing, and (3) contact the seller directly via email or phone with concerns.
We appreciate the valuable feedback many Community members have given us about the new process. After launching the Item Not Received process in January 2005, we will continue to monitor closely how well the process is working for both buyers and sellers.
