***Online Safety: Protect Yourself from Spoof Email and Web sites***
Date: 11/09/04 Time: 05:13:36 PM PST

Occasionally, eBay members may receive deceptive emails claiming to come from eBay, PayPal, or other popular Web sites. Most of these fake emails claim that your account is in jeopardy and require that you respond or you will not be able to buy or sell on eBay. The people who send these emails -- referred to as "spoof" or "phishing" emails -- hope that unsuspecting recipients will reply or click on a link contained in the email and then provide sensitive personal information (for example, eBay User IDs, passwords, social security numbers, credit card numbers, etc.).
Please protect your eBay and PayPal accounts by following these tips:

Should you get an email that appears to be from PayPal or eBay about an unfamiliar transaction or dollar amount, do not click on a link or respond to the email. Delete the email, and check your transactions by logging into PayPal or signing into My eBay.

Never enter your eBay password, PayPal password or financial information into an email or an email form. eBay and PayPal will never ask you to do this.

Get eBay Toolbar with Account Guard – this new feature indicates when you are on eBay or PayPal and warns you when you are on a potentially fraudulent site. You can download the toolbar by visiting www.ebay.com/ebay_toolbar.

Keep your operating system, Web browser, and virus detection software up to date. Microsoft recently updated its browser security – you can receive the latest updates by visiting its Web site at www.microsoft.com.

You can learn more safety tips by visiting eBay's Security Center and by taking eBay's Spoof Email Protection Tutorial. These resources provide detailed information about spoof emails, identity theft, and what to do if your eBay account has been compromised.
eBay is committed to enabling you to have a safe and enjoyable experience online. Your vigilance helps us ensure that eBay remains a safe and vibrant online marketplace.

Regards,
eBay
